Each village of the Languedoc has its own personality, local traditions and values, and the preservation and fostering of local communities is of great importance.  In the past there was much intrigue between different towns, but this competition now takes the form of hard-fought sporting rivalries to be recognized as the most vibrant village.

In Béziers in August the town goes wild for a week. In the old days there used to be a fountain that gushed wine. Today there are bull fights and all night parties!  While the Béziers feria is perhaps the most famous, there are fiestas and other local events taking place seemingly every other day - at the Fete de Bacchus in Bédarieux every year the main street is given over to stalls offering tastings of wine and local produce, followed by a huge communal dinner. Lamalou-les-Bains hosts a summer theatre festival. The Pézenas nocturne is a 10 course dinner for 300 with each course servied in a different building or courtyard of the town, each course lubricated by a the fruits of a different vigneron!  And the list goes on...
