Take a trip on a traditional steam train up the Orb Valley, travelling under ancient aqueducts past fruit farms growing cherry, peach, apple and pear trees. There are olive groves and vineyards, but there are also sheep grazing in the fields.
The pilgrims on their way to St Jacques de Compostella in north-west Spain travelled by the Chemin d'Arles, which passes Hérépian and crosses the La Salvetat plateau, before arriving at Toulouse. Testament to the celestial beauty and calm of the landscape, many abbeys were built in the High Languedoc, from 1000 AD. Visits to Sorèze, Burlats and the Villemagne l'Argentière will not leave you disappointed.
Spend a morning wandering the narrow streets of the bustling town of Béziers - great for shopping with the major Paris deparment stores and a wide range of specialist boutiques.
